Archive for November, 2009
Waking up to the frost this morning was a bit of a shock. Ok, I am aware that it is November, but it has been so mild recently (albeit a bit wet), I just wasn’t prepared for such a cold start to the morning. It follows then, that the sales of winter coats and thicker clothing has really taken off now at the expense of t-shirts and dresses.
This lovely grey wool and poly mix coat with a hint of luxurious cashmere in it from Chloé, is very smart and would enhance any outfit. Whether to pop on top of party dresses, or special days out, this coat has many lovely features including the signature Chloé scalloped edging.

This thick padded body warmer from Rockfish is ideal for the pony mad girls out there as we approach the colder days. The sleeveless gilet will keep them really warm whilst mucking out at the stables, without restricting their arms. Also, the faux fur trimmed hood is a great bonus to keep the chills away from their heads, and it has the benefit of being totally removable for when they go out for a ride with their safety riding hat on.
Perfect for casual wear too – not just restricted to the stables. Available for girls and women.

This pretty pink tiered dress is suitable for weddings, other formal occasions and parties. The floaty style will make younger girls feel like a princess when they wear it, so if it is being bought as a bridesmaid or flowergirl dress, this is one style that will be worn again so the dress won’t be wasted as a ‘one wear only’ item.
The dress is available in a wide range of sizes from 2 to 12 years, so you can choose to have all your younger bridesmaid in matching dresses. It would also look good with only the smallest girls in this dress, with older girls in something different – they don’t all have to be the same.
This dress is machine washable.

A crisp white shirt looks good under any suit, but when that suit is a tuxedo, it is a must as is the bow tie. I’ve seen some people (especially boys try to get away with a regular shirt, but this doesn’t quite look right). A formal pleated version is best, like this shirt from the page boy and wedding section of BHS.
The centrepiece of the shirt has a slim panel which conceals the buttons for a more professional look. At either side of this panel there are 5 slim pleats.
Machine washable, this shirt comes with a bow tie and works well with any smart suit or tuxedo.
Currently available in sizes 9-10 to 15-16 years.

These gorgeous little ivory coloured cashmere shoes can be worn on any occasion, but for this article I am considering them for Christenings or Naming Ceremonies.
They are available in 2 sizes: 0-3 months and 3-6 months, and come as a kit to make at home. That has probably struck fear into many of you, but the instructions are extremely clear and these shoes are SO EASY TO MAKE! Even basic sewers will be able to do a really good job.
Going back to the theme of Christenings or Naming Ceremonies. When my own two boys were christened, I made the christening robe and also the cake for the do afterwards. I know a lot of people buy them ready made, but to me it was extra special to do it myself – sort of like a mother’s duty or mother’s gift. If only these gorgeous shoes had been around then I wouldn’t have hesitated in buying them to complete the outfit, and added to the heirloom collection that I hope my boys continue with their own children.
The shoes can be left plain as shown above, with just the blanket stitch around the edges for decoration, or contrasting felt pieces can be added in the shape of a pretty flower with a button sewn on top, or a felt initial – perhaps for the baby’s name. All the items required to make the shoes and the instructions are included in the pack. The cashmere pieces are even pre-cut – you can’t get much easier than that.
Whether buying these shoes for your own baby, or as a gift for a friend, they are a true gift that will be treasured for a very long time to come.

Fed up buying the same old black or brown jodhpur boots? We’re sure your daughter would love these pink nubuck boots instead. They are also available in a fabulous purple colour (I prefer the purple ones), and would certainly brighten up the stables – especially at this time of year.
Of course your daughter doesn’t have to just keep them for riding though, as they make a fashion statement in themselves and once worn, she’s sure to want to wear them everywhere!
Easy for pulling on and taking off, these boots are available in child sizes from 13 to adult size 8 – so mum can have some too.
(A similar boot is also available for smaller children).

I don’t know about you, but everytime I see a Juicy Couture velour tracksuit it reminds me of Madonna. Perhaps she is the most famous wearer of one of these iconic outfits?
Wearable at any time of the year, they seem to be popping up everywhere at the moment due to the chilly breeze in the air. Soft luxurious velour is always a joy to wear, and the onset of the colder, darker months make this item even more desirable. The season just begs for some warm and cosy clothing that you can just slouch around in.
Available in sizes from 3 to 14 years. Also avaiable in black or grey, and a similar pink version can also be obtained for babies.

All little girls love to dress up in their finest party dresses – it’s what being a girl is all about! This lovely double-layered jersey fabric dress from Boden will be one dress to do just that. Have a read of the reviews written so far by very satisfied customers – if a floaty, swishy dress is what you are after, then this may be just the one for your daughter.
The dress is available in 3 bright and different shades. Each of them look gorgeous, but personally I love the purple best. All colours available in sizes from 18 months – 2 years, to 13-14 years.
Due to the jersey fabric, the dress will be ideal to wear as a tunic over leggings or footless tights as one customer mentioned, after it becomes too short for a dress. In these recessions times, that is something worth thinking about!

These fun pixie booties are so cute and would make a lovely gift for girl or boy babies. With a suede sole and moccasin style top, the boots have a generous band of faux fur around the ankle giving them a gorgeous look. Soft shoes for inside or outside the home, they are available in two sizes: 12-18 months and 18-24 months.

This twin pack of tights for girls is perfect for the coming festive season.
One pair has a white snowy background with super sparkly silver snowflakes printed all over them. Great with knitted dresses and skirts worn with chunky boots, or shiny patent shoes.
The other design in the pack is a pair of silvery sparkly tights and will look lovely with your daughter’s party dresses. The pack is available in sizes from 2-3 years to 7-8 years.

As winter approaches, we tend to dress our children in more heavy duty clohing like these corduroy trousers for boys. Personally, I am a huge fan of them. I think they look smart so even when boys are wearing them for everyday wear, they still look good. When you have to nip out to the shops, just pop on a nice jacket and your son is instantly well dressed yet still comfortable and not fussy looking.
These cords have an elasticated waist for the toddler sizes, and if your sons are anything like my sons, you will be delighted to find that the older sizes have adjustable waists. For length I need to buy larger sizes, but the waists are usually way too big so being adjustable is the perfect solution.
As well as these cords in this lovely nutmeg colour, they are also available in a deep midnight blue.
