Burberry
From humble beginnings in a small outfitters shop in Basingstoke, UK during 1856, Burberry was born. The insight afforded by its creator, the 21 year old draper’s apprentice Thomas Burberry was quite staggering. Quality was at the forefront of Burberry’s philosophy, but so too was innovation and development of fabric design, notably the creation of ‘Gaberdine’ a breathable, waterproof and tearproof fabric used in many Burberry products, and the heavy duty coats worn by British Officers during the Boer War.
Captain Roald Amundsen famously wore Burberry when he became the first man to reach the South Pole in 1911.
Granted a number of Royal Warrants, Burberry remains a very ‘British’ brand to this day.
